Why do you hate yourself?

she asked,

I wondered if I should answer that,

because if I did,

who'd care if I left?

Wanting to listen to my predicament,

as if I was sick,

scared, I wondered what she'd ask next,

Why do you hate yourself?

she asked,

like a good doctor,.

as if she could fix,

my soul, and what she thought beat in my chest,

Why do you hate yourself?

what have they done to you?

What do your eyes hide,

What is it that you dread?

To love a heart yet break it,

To break a heart and not regret it.
